This youtube clip of Tupac ringtones is a prime example of the technological innovations that are sweeping this country and keeping the consumer linked to the music industry. With people downloading music for free, the music industry can still charge the consumer with every ringtone that they download. This shows the changes in the distribution of the artists work and also shows the consumption of music has changed as well. Fourteen years after his death, Tupac Shakur can now be heard just one call away.

Sept 8th: 'Bed Intruder' parody song takes over charts:
This song is important to the music industry because it furthers the idea of audience involvement. The Gregory brothers are a strong example, proving that the industry may no longer need real artists, producers, or big record companies to move units. This youtube clip is now a top song on billboard charts and iTunes. Half of me thinks this is horrible for the longevity of the industry, and half of me thinks this could be our last hope for the music industry to stay afloat.
One of the first things that come to mind when I think of technology and the music industry is the vocalizer. I can't believe that we really listen to this stuff and really think it's talent. I do enjoy most pop music, but I can definitely tell how a lot of the talent that did once exist is now not nearly as appreciated. I think this little clip pokes fun at this idea.
MTV's 2010 VMA's used the popular social networking site to keep their online viewers up-to-date with the nights hi-lights including the winners, the jaw-dropping performances and the not so funny Chelsea Handler. The use of this micro-blogging site shows how influential social networking sites have become in this past year and how much people have become dependent on it for entertainment and news.
I felt this was an important topic to talk about within the music industry because it was one of the most gossiped and discussed events within the past year. Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift at the VMAs last year caused a huge nose-dive in his popularity ratings but also a buzz surrounding this years VMA's when the public learned both he and Taylor Swift would be performing. Although he has been the most hated men in music for the past year, the performance he gave Sunday evening allowed him to restore his fan base. The reaction towards the performances by West & Swift have been analyzed, debated, & gossiped about since they took place but it goes to show how quickly people will forgive & how quickly one can return to the top. Taylor Swift forgave West in the song she performed on Sunday. West bashed himself within his own musical works, & the fans loved it. All has been forgiven, but obviously not forgotten.
